I guess all of us remember the fear of going to the dentist as a child. I know my heart would start to beat fast when he fired up that buzzing drill and told me to open wide. I remember sitting in a dentist chair like the one below in Dr. Haynes DDS office in the Ardmoreite Building back in the 60s. Looks like something an alien from outer space would use on humans. lol

April 1932
Charles L Cummings, constable at Lone Grove and a pioneer resident of that community, has been subjected to considerable embarrassment by the similarity of his name and that of a man arrested recently for a felony. Cummings has served as constable for 8 years and is widely and favorably known over the county. He wishes his friends to know that he and the man of similar name cited in the account of the arrest are entirely different individuals.

For over a month now the utility PrivaZer has been doing a good job removing junk files, etc., from my PC. I did a comparison between my old favorite CCleaner and the new program PrivaZer. I ran CCleaner first, and then PrivaZer immediately afterwards, and PrivaZer did find junk left behind from CCleaner.

to find Iodine, but most are not used because it is so prevalent in the brine
and also caliche in Chile. Most Iodine in the US does come from the Anadarko

A few weeks ago I received an email from a
Reader inquiring about how some certain streets in the north part of town got
their name. They were Cason, Turner, and Freeman streets. These streets are just
off North Washington to the east in the Hillcrest Addition. This week when I was
at the Military Museum inside the Greater Southwest Historical Museum, I found
the answer to the question. The streets were named after Ardmoreites who served
in WWII.

Speaking of the Military Museum, last
November most of you will remember the current Carter County Sheriff, Harvey
Burkhart, put on loan to the Military Museum a Thompson machinegun for display.
The machinegun was purchased by the department in 1960 and had been in their
vault for years.

One little unknown fact about the
machinegun, is that on the side of the machinegun, next to the serial number, is
some small dimples or dings. These dings represent the number of times the
machinegun has been to the factory/armory for reconditioning, modification or
whatever. The machinegun on display at the Military Museum here in Ardmore has 7
dings in its side.

I find this very interesting, but you might want to include my late husband, Charles R. Milner (Bob) in the list of your family members. Bob was the grandson of R. L. Randol and the son of Charles A. Milner. He was a lifelong citizen of Ardmore and Senior Trust Officer at First National Bank before his retirement in 1992. "I'm a little behind, having just finished the T&T from 2 weeks ago where you talked about using Windows 10. I have heard good things about it, but-- at my place of work, my computer is also a server for our other computers, so is critical to be operating correctly. When I came to work 5:30 a.m., there it was, having downloaded Windows 10 without asking on a business server. When I clicked through the resulting permission windows, my computer went haywire, got into a loop, and the power unit burned out. It has shut our business down for the whole weekend, as we can't get the tech service and repair we need. Seems like it should be illegal for Microsoft to do this without permission. I'll stick with my Apple computers that I've had at home and in past jobs for 30 years. Never had one virus or malfunction with them in all that time. Almost daily problems with Windows." -Skip J

It is reported that the Rock House located on the east side of Lake Murray, an administration office at the time, was also bombed by a B-17 from Ardmore. Unfortunately, Lake Murray officials of that time period are no longer with us and the incident has not been verified. Maybe someone reading this will be able to contribute information.

Graduated Ardmore High School 1955 (and attended most 10 year reunions). Received commission as US Navy Ensign from University of Oklahoma in February 1960. Active duty till 1966, then reserves until 1992. As a retired naval officer and amateur historian, enjoyed your question about the USS Batfish.
The statement "making it the most successful killing submarine ever" must be
qualified because successes were measured by gross tonnage sunk, number of ships
sunk, number of combatants sunk, etc.
