Back before World War II in 1930 Hostess put out banana crème filled Twinkies (not vanilla crème as today). Because of the shortage of bananas during the war, they stopped making the banana Twinkies (1940s). To probably many American's sadness, Hostess never started back up with their banana Twinkies after WWII ended. But this year they started doing just that, filling those delicious Twinkies with banana creme! I was in the Carter County Assessors Office this week, and there in their break room was a whole box of banana Twinkies, and I couldn't resist trying one. Oh man, you talk about great taste..... I'm so glad they resumed production!http://www.oklahomahistory.net/ttphotos7a/TwinkiesBanana.jpg

The corner of 12th and E Street and I remember the house was moved east to the corner of D St. and 12th by house movers. We watched them move it and set it on the new foundation.

I was born in 1961 and we lived at Dillard where my dad worked for Westheimer-Neustadt Corp. For most of my growing up years, Dub Taliaferro had a grocery/gas station/feed store at the corner of Dillard road and the first section line north of Hwy 70. He was a butcher and cut meat in that store also. I'm not sure it would pass inspection by today's standards! He had the coldest soda pop around. Also, Ruby Freeman (1902-1973) had a one-room store 3 miles north on Dillard Road for several years, near where the old Rexroat Baptist Church was located. It was open until sometime in the late 60s or early 70s. I remember the parking area around the store was covered with lids from pop bottles.
