"	"June Boyer"	"Salt Lake, Utah"	"801-268-1354"	"navymome5@aol.com"	"12/15/2006"	"10:24:24 AM"	"72.199.88.136" "Fred Duncan StoryIn the mid 1930's my Dad moved his Family from Ravia to Russett,in a wagon pulled my mules.The Family consisted of his wife,2 sons and 3 daugthers.Our oldest sister,Dorothy stayed with our Grandmother,and worked her way through Murray State College.Dad farmed on the shares with Fred Chapman.He moved us into a house located on road to Mannsville,about3-4 miles from school house.Our nearest neighnors were ""Youngs"",then ran the Washita River,us and Barney Godfrey who lived with his widowed Mother,Ida.The house we moved into was old,so cold,and all that Jack can remember is sitting down to a breakfast of biscuits,bacon and eggs.and gravy with the wind whistling through the cracks.We kids had to walk a long lane to get on the school bus for school and in those days the buses didn't have heaters!!We would be frozen by time we got to school.I can't remember my teacher's name but she would always have a pan of hot cocoa on back of the pot bellied stove.Ed Gill was principal then.Those were hard times for everyone.No One had any electricity,running water,or indoor plumbing.I can remember my Mom getting up at 3:30 AM to fry chicken and make a big breakfast for the working crew who went from farm to farm baling hay.We didn't work an Sundays as it was the Lord's Day and we all took Saturday night nights and got dressed in our finest to wear to Church.Our finest in those days weren't very fancy.Mom would buy feed and use the material to make me dresses.We always had plenty to eat and if we were poor we didn't know it.We grew watermelons and when they were ripe would keep them in river to cool them.Boy were they good.I can remember Lucretia and her friend Veda Pollard,going to school for parties,taffy pulls,cake walks and I would cry to go along,but I was to young.But at Christmas time in the evening,our parents would take us to school for the Christmas Festivities.Which was usually a play with school kids putting it on and at the end Santa would come and pass out treats in paper sacks.We all got an orange,a apple,some hard ribbon candy,and if we were extra good,a chocolate drop.Those were the highlights ofmy time spent there.I don't exactly remember why we moved away from Russett,but Jack said Mom told him Dad and Fred Chapman got into a disagreement over how or whom to vote for,whether that is true that is what she said.While we were there we all ""drank from the well"".Now that I'm older I look back on those ""good old Days'and am so grateful for the days that used to be.I do enjoy this website,I tthinks its great to be able to read aboutt others who lived there also.Thanks Larry Jean Graham"	"Jean Graham"	"632 Folkerth * 73 Sidney.Ohio 45365"	"937-498-9847"	"hgraham2@woh.rr.com"	"12/22/2006"	"1:05:44 PM"	"71.72.180.154" "Hi Larry.Sorry about the mistakes.The Saturday night episode should have read we always took our Saturday night baths to prepare for Church the next morning.

It is very interesting to read where families left their homes to move to Russett, etc. The information on the cemeteries was good, lot of work put into it. I was in Ft Worth over the Hoilday, got home around 8pm New Years Eve, and turned the computer on and caught up on the mail, just before I was to shut down, I decided to click on the Russett Website and most I had already read, but saw your Resume posted and brought it up, I got to bed around midnite...was quite interesting, impressive,you are to be congratulated on your acommplishments thru out your career. I did find your experiences in China very interesting reading. Thanks for sharing. and a BIG THANKS for starting this website. When I was in (I think) the third/fourth grade my teachers name was Ms. Uptegraph (I'm not sure how it's spelled) but I'm close. Anyone remember her? I noticed her name wasn't on the teachers list.
Susan (Brown) Pilgrim, Daughter of Aus & Slack Brown. Daddy was the one that pulled people out of the flood waters at the Y with his Allis Chalmer? tractor. We lived south of the Y and I guess daddy listened for cars trying to make it through the deep water. :) One year I remember sweet potato plants growing in the Y area that must have been carried there by the high water.
