The old Colvert Mansion on 12th NW is no more. It was razed this week and only a vacant lot remains.
Construction completed in April or May 1922. Built by John A. Heenan. The house was sold to Ray Colvert in April 1926.
After a deep dive:
Originally allotted to Maude Moore, Choctaw. Sold to Brutus M. Bynum in 1908 for $2,500. Two newspaper articles reference Bynum building a house in late 1908. The 1910 Ardmore directory says Bynum lives on 12th Ave outside of city limits. Bynum sold it to a Henry Davis in July 1919 for $12,400. Davis sold it to John A. Heenan in May 1922 for $24,000. – submitted by kati Linn Cain
Most people in Love County are familiar with the Love County Military Museum but know little of how the museum began. Hap Cox, a World War II veteran, was instrumental in establishing the museum. _The Marietta Monitor

Someone asked me this week saying they have always wondered if the period after AL should even be there on the Rice building at #19 West Broadway..
Today Shirley Teel of Healdton sent the answer from a 1918 Polk City Directory. His name was Albert Rice, shortened to just Al.

Q. Where was the Super Dog located?
A. North Commerece and 9th NW. The SW corner.
Q, Butch do you know or can you find out when addresses in Ardmore and Lone Grove were changed from Route and Boxes to 911 Street addresses? I’m particularly interested in Callahan Street in Lone Grove. I’ll appreciate your help.
A. City of Lone Grove named their streets. 2002 to 2003 was when the county commissioners named their roadways and the Cities and towns named their roadways. There are resolutions on file for each city and town for the naming.

The first thing I noticed when I entered the door of Papa’s Pizza in Lone Grove was the old commercial dough maker they had on display. Quite an interesting piece of history.

“Happy New Year Cuz and Mrs. Cuz, Really enjoyed the pictures of downtown Ardmore all lit up for Christmas. Brought back a lot of memories of my pre-teen years when we would drive down from Davis just to see all the window displays that were up for Christmas. I do believe back then that Daube’s had the best displays of all as they were the ones with the moving animation characters that all us kids loved to stand and watch for hours.” -Poss in Korea
“Speaking of knives my father had one that he carried for many years. It was a Case knife according to my older brothers. He had it when they were small my mom gave it to me when he passed away. It now lies at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean. I was on a troop ship on my way to Germany we had to weather a storm in mid Atlantic and I had it in my hand cleaning my nails when the ship made a hard roll to the left. Someone lost his footing and slammed into me. I grabbed for him and lost my knife to the sea. But I kept the guy from going overboard. A small price to pay for that feeling. I hope Neptune has taken good care of it.” -Paskell in CA
“Butch, I lived at 707 K St. NW from about 1946 until 1954. The store I remember was at the NE corner of K Street and 8th. I do not know the names of the people who owned it. I have a cute story about that store and the different times back then. At about age 5 or so I decided to take some change from my mother’s purse and go over to the store for a treat. I believe I bought a pop and a candy bar. By the time I got home my mother was waiting for me. The people at the store knew I shouldn’t have had that much money and that I wasn’t allowed to cross the street without permission. They called my mother to let her know I was buying candy and pop. I got to cut my own willow switch from the tree out back. I learned several good lessons that day.” -Carrol Evans
The snow really started coming down about 7am this morning in southern Oklahoma. I took this picture from our front porch about noon today and its still coming down. Predictions are up to 8 inches of snow by tomorrow. 🙁
Ring out the old, ring in the new,
Ring, happy bells, across the snow:
The year is going, let him go;
Ring out the false, ring in the true.
