This week’s T&T is kinda short, we have been so busy getting ready for the big move to Lone Grove, we haven’t had time to do much of anything. We have been running back and forth between Ardmore and Lone Grove on a daily basis almost, but making progress. I estimate around January 1st I’ll be dropping my cableone email address. I suggest any and all emails to me be sent to my [email protected] and you’ll know for sure it will make its way to me without delay.
In the mean time, I hope some of my faithful Readers will send in some history to fill these pages while Jill and I are between homes. And if I’m late getting out my T&T during the next 3 or 4 weeks, you’ll know what happened, we’re busy moving and all.
Jill and I stopped at an auction last Saturday morning south of Ardmore and looked at an old domino table with advertisements printed along the outer edges. County Commissioners Huss Standifer, Joyce Talliaferro and Mack Frazer’s names were printed on the domino table along with my grandfather’s, Stanley Carmon, who had an ad for his lumber yard when it was located on 3rd NE printed on it. Best I could figure the table with printing took place around 1965. Interesting piece of history.

I been reading this week about DNA testing for genealogy research. I have always wonder about my genepool, and this may be the place to start the search. There are several places on the internet that claim to do these type of DNA test. They claim among other things you may find living kinfolk you didn’t know you had. I probably got a ton living in Pennsylvania. lol Has anyone done any of this?
If anyone has a good used pickup for sale, give me a shout, I’m looking to buy one.
Christmas time is here and time to start looking at Christmas decorations. if anyone sees a home with spectacular Christmas lights and all, take a picture and send it in. We are going to be on the watch for some beautiful decorations when we are out in the evening hours, and hopefully have some good pics to share in next week’s T&T. Like the song says, Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year.
Some mail from this week’s MAILBAG…..“My name is Victor Konopka and I am inquiring about Tranqulius (Tip) Mann, (T.A. Mann), (Tip A.C. Mann) born in Aberdeen, Monroe county, Mississippi. He was a soldier in the Mississippi infantry during the civil war, captured and wounded at the battle of Falling Waters. He also received a civil war pension from the state of Oklahoma After the civil war he taught school in Monroe county Mississippi. He then moved on to the Chickasaw Nation and taught school. On the way he married Amanda Rhea in Van Buren Arkansas. Their first son was my grandfather Mets Mann born 1886 in Ardmore Oklahoma. I believe their second son was ross Mann born in Paris texas 1889. Their were other children and he remarried. In the 1900 Oklahoma census Chickasaw Township 3.s.r.2w he was the enumerator, T.A. Mann. For some reason on searches he shows up as Tippican Mann. It should be Tipp A.C. Mann. By the time this census was taken my grandfather Mets and his brother Ross Mann were living in Tennesse with their Aunt. the family on the 1900 census shows Mattie 30 his wife, Mary Doretus Mann, daughter, Romer Mann 1. Any info on T.A. Mann would be appreciated.” [email protected]
“Dear Butch, My name is Angela Besherse, I am doing a scrapbook about my mother and father. I am having trouble finding information on where my father grew up. It’s a little town in Southeastern Oklahoma called Connerville. My father’s family are all buried there. If anyone know of the history of that town I’d much appreciate it. Thank you very much.” -Angela [email protected]

“The drive-in that was south of the first miniature golf on South Washington was Mean’s Drive-In owned by Homer and Lena Means. I was a carhop there for two years. Does anyone remember: going to the Civic Auditorium just before Christmas and getting bags filled with hard candy, an apple and usually an orange; cars that had names painted on the back fender; drag racing at Springer on Sunday afternoon? Boy those were the simpler days and kids could really have fun running around town at night on $1.00 of gas.”
