Grove Mart Grocery in Lone Grove has changed owners. A thanks to the Brown family who has ran it all these years, Kris, Keith, Tonya & Nauntie & those that come before. The building was built by C. D. “Red” Akers in 1995.

Hey Butch, your article in the last issue mentioned Staunton. Staunton began prior to Wirt Franklin hitting oil 2 miles west of Healdton in 1913. Ragtown/Wirt began with the oil. Dundee school started in 1914 three miles west of Healdton. Staunton was a few miles NW of the new oilfield, the kids at Staunton wound up going to Dundee. -Vince Freeman in Healdton
Butch, there was a question in last weeks newsletter about the name of a convenience store located on A st NE and 11th. Person said his aunt Hazel Phillips had this store but doesn’t mention time frame. Someone answered D&D Zip Mart? In my youth I lived on 9th. Between B & C streets NE. I frequented a store on the Southwest corner of A and 11th NE (Taylor’s Food Stoere 1023 A NE). This store was owned and managed by Josie (Josephine) Taylor and her husband Joe Taylor. This was at the least from the early 60’s thru the 70’s. I can only remember it being called Taylor’s ? I believe Josie later worked/owned and operated a package store on west end of Boy’s Food Store on what is now called Sam Noble Parkway.
Taylor’s Food Store burned down in the 1960s.
Butch- regarding the location of the Super Dog. I always think of it as the original location on Lake Murray Drive. I guess I’m just showing my age. -Keith Read

Back around 1997 Leroy McDaniel sent me some photos he took when he was around 16 years old (about 1943). The photos are of the cotton gin fire in Ardmore located on the east side of South Washington in the 300 block. The reason I’m bringing this up is because several of you wrote in and asked was the the dark area in the SE corner of the 1940 Ardmore aerial submitted by Garth Hoard. It was pointed out this area was on the east side of South Washington in about the 300 block. Here is the link to that particular aerial and you can see the black area on the map.

Speaking of Leroy and Jimmie Morrow McDaniel (both deceased now), some of you will remember for years they maintained a wonderful website devoted to mostly Mannsville, Oklahoma history (no longer online).
